Daily Deal Sites: A List of The Best Daily Deal Sites

October 20, 2012 by dailydibs

When someone talks about daily deal sites, they are usually talking about one of two different types of daily deal sites, sites like Groupon, and sites Like Woot.  See our list below for our selection of the best daily deal sites in each category.

The sites like Groupon primarily offer daily deals to local businesses like restaurants, spas, home services companies and more.  The deals to these local businesses are usually in the form of discounted “gift certificates” (e.g. $15 for $30 worth of food at a restaurant).   When Groupon first became popular, most of their deals were only available for a single day, thus the moniker daily deals.  As this local daily deal business has evolved, almost all of the deals are available for longer than a single day.

The second category of daily deal sites are the sites like Woot.  These daily deal sites don’t typically offer discounted certificates, but instead sell products at discounted prices.   Most of the most popular sites in this category, including Woot, continue to offer the deals for only a single day.

Here’s our list of best daily deal sites by category – updated though January 2013

Best Daily Deal Sites (Local)

When Groupon became popular and started making tons of money, literally hundreds of sites like them were created.  As it turns out, creating a daily deal site like Groupon is quite easy, but creating one that makes a profit is much more difficult.  Many of  the sites that popped up in the last 3 years have already shut down.  Although there are still a ton of these type of sites out there, most of them do not offer very compelling deals. We have selected what we think are the best daily deal sites that not only offer good deals, but can be trusted to offer quality customer service.

Groupon – The Granddaddy of them all.  They have deals in virtually every market.

LivingSocial – The clear number two to Groupon.  They also have a great selection of deals.

Amazon Local – Initially, this was a partnership with LivingSocial (in whom Amazon invested $175m), but I’m not sure what percentage of the deals are still sold by the LivingSocial sales team.  Nevertheless, the daily deals on Amazon Local are consistently high quality and of course you can rely on Amazon for customer service.

SweetJack– SweetJack is owned and operated by Cumulus Media – owners of hundreds of radio stations.  They are expanding rapidly and are now in about 100 cities.

TravelZoo – While their main focus has been travel for many years now, they have successfully transitioned into local daily deals.  There deals are often to upscale local destinations.  If you like upscale local deals, you can also try out Gilt City – available in a handful of large markets.

Deal Chicken – Deal Chicken is operated by Gannett (The company that owns the USA Today).  If they are available in your town, they usually offer good deals and they can be trusted.

Half Off Depot – Based in Atlanta, this daily deal site is not in a bunch of cities, but if they are in your city they are well worth checking out as they consistently have some of the best deals in town.

Depending on what town you live in, there may be one or two other locally run sites that offer quality deals.  At DailyDibs.com, you can pick your city and see all the daily deals in one place.  See our full list of daily deal sites like groupon here.

Best Daily Deal Sites (Products)

Woot – Founded in 2004 and acquired by Amazon in 2010, Woot is the top dog in daily deals for products.  They have expanded into several categories of daily deals (wine, t-shirts, home products, and kids)

1 Sale a Day – Not nearly as big as Woot, but nonetheless very successful.  They also have numerous categories of daily deals. (watches, wireless, family, jewelery, and now flash sales)

Yugster – A Woot clone that has been around for a while and consistently has good deals on a wide range of products.

Daily Steals – Another Woot copycat that offers great daily deals.   They too have expanded their deal of the day product suite.  They now have a deal of the day in the following categories – toys, mobile, home goods.

Sites Like Woot

April 23, 2012 by dailydibs

Around since 2004, Woot is one of the original deal of the day sites.  They started initially with Woot.com and have expanded into several other types of targeted deals.

Woot.com  Deals.Woot  Wine Woot  Kids Woot  Home Woot  Shirt Woot

Because of the success of Woot (Purchased in 2010 by Amazon) there have been countless clones.  We have decided to list what we think are the best sites like Woot.  We know that there are many many more sites like Woot than what we have listed, but we think these sites represent the best from the standpoint of selection, price and reliability.

Independent Daily Deal Sites Like Woot

1 Sale A Day – Probably the number 2 deal of the day site like Woot.  1 Sale a Day had also expanded from a single item each day into an item a day in multiple categories.  They also recently added flash sales to their offering.

Yugster – One of the early Woot copy cats, Yugster gets their name from their motto that the deal is “Yours Until Gone”.  Yugster has offered a watch deal each day along with their main deal for  a while now.

Daily Steals – Along with Yugster and 1 Sale A Day, Daily Steals is the third of the big three daily deal sites like Woot.  Daily Steals now also offers more than just one featured item per day.  They have a daily toy deal, a home supplies deal, and a mobile deal.

Big Retailers with Sites Like Woot

Groupon – Yes, Groupon now has product deals like Woot.  The deals are not offered for one day only like Woot, but they are offered for a limited time and the best deals usually sell out.  Check out their latest deals at Groupon Goods.

Amazon Gold Box – Amazon Gold Box has been around for a while and they continue to have a wide selection of great deal each day.  Their purchase of Woot has had little impact on either Woot or Amazon Gold Box.

NewEgg Shell Shocker – NewEgg is a large electronics retailer and they have a popular deal of the day called the Shell Shocker.  If you are looking for electronics deals, this is a very good option.

Best Buy Daily Deal – Best Buy is actually affiliated with two daily deals.  They have recently added on to their own site, and also have one at their partner site CowBoom.com.

Walmart Deal of the Day – Yes, Walmart has a deal of the day, and while the deals aren’t always great, there are frequently good deals to be had.

Target Deal of the Day – Similar to Walmart in the fact that the deals are a little inconsistent, but there are great deals from time to time.

We said we were only going to list the best, which we have above, but here are several more notable ones for the folks looking for a more complete list:

Midnight Box – General interest merchandise.

Daily Checkout – Lots of small gadgets and lower priced items.

Steep and Cheap – Very popular site, but mainly sell clothing for the outdoors.

Jizbee – Another general interest daily deal site.

Whiskey Militia – Focus on surf, skate and snow gear.  An affiliate of Backcountry.com

Joma Deals – Focus on watches and jewelry.

Ok, we’ll stop there, but trust us, there are more – many more.

If you love daily deals, we have a couple more lists.  All the daily deal sites like Groupon and the combined list of daily deal sites (sites like Woot and Groupon).

Woot Coupon Code 2014

April 19, 2012 by dailydibs

The best way to get a Woot coupon code is to be a good customer.  People that shop often or are active are the ones that usually get the coupon codes emailed to them.  So, make sure you have your Woot account up to date and have opted in to emails.

If you don’t see an active coupon code listed below, the only other option is to check the Woot forums.  Sometimes you can find one there.

Woot does occasionally have coupon codes, however, it is not often and they are hard to come by.  We try to post any active coupon codes here as soon as we hear about them.

Recent Woot Promo Codes – Through March 2014

  • None currently available – check the Woot forums.
  • Free Shipping – These codes will only work for a small percentage of people. (click link to activate and enter code at checkout)
    •  FREESHIP
    • THANKS
  • $5 Off orders over $25 or $10 Off orders over $50 with Coupon Code BINARY. Ends on 11/11/2011
  • Free Shipping at Wine Woot with promo code: NEMATIC.
  • $5 off any order of $15 or more on shirt.woot.com with coupon code: OctRandomSale
Note: Almost all of the coupon codes only work for certain registered users.  The folks at Woot will usually email you if you have “earned” a coupon code, so sometimes it is worth trying the coupon codes in case you have earned them, but missed the notification.

If you don’t already know, there’s more to Woot than just www.woot.com – they have several other niche versions of Woot.

Remember: The best way to get a Woot coupon code is to be an active participant on the Woot site.  The more you participate, the more likely it is that you will get a Woot coupon sent to your email directly from Woot.
